MVT
The Military Vehicles Trust
Such is the way of the world now that you need insurance for everything... and it would seem it is never about covering you, but other idiots in the world who do stupid things... like the public! There are many ways to get insurance for re-enacting, but they invariably work out more expensive and less specialist than going through MVT. Each member must have their own insurance and we strongly recommend going through MVT as it is the best value for money and by far the easiest to obtain.
The Military Vehicle Trust is the World’s largest group of ex-military vehicle owners and enthusiasts, and the only charity dedicated to “keeping our mechanical veterans alive”. You don’t need to own a vehicle to join us; many re-enactors, living historians and vehicle enthusiasts are active members. (reworded, but the information comes direct from the MVT website)
Joining is as simple as filling out the form on their website and paying the membership fee (which at the time of writing, for a single membership, is £35 for 12 months. Minimum age 16 years). Once complete, you’ll receive your membership number and information on how to access the insurance documents. Please be aware that it could take a few days before you can access the documents whilst the MVT team set up your account.
Better still, is that they provide a joint membership, if you're lucky enough to have a partner who you've roped into the hobby as well. This only adds £5 onto the price, making it a real bargain, two people for £40! Which is cheaper than some companies provide for one person, let alone two.
Without valid insurance, you cannot (and will not) be allowed to come to any events with the group. This is for you as much as it is us... blame the sorts of people who put cats in ovens to dry them and then take the company who made the cooker to court simply because there were no instructions on the cooker to tell them they shouldn't do that... yes, you know the sorts of people I mean!
